Shakespeare was a companion to the history of the new age theatre. His dramatic legacy has constantly nourished artistic thought, opening up new creative possibilities for the theatre. Even in our far frоm complete review, we hope it is clear that Shakespeare's plays have a wealth of content and form that made it possible to bring to the fore the elements that best fit the spiritual needs of the era. Each time had its own Shakespeare. In all the transformations that took place with Shakespeare's works under the influence of successive eras of social development and artistic thought, the most effective factor remained the humanistic basis of the great playwright's works, which always attracted attention to him.
We are far frоm claiming that all the impressions that Shakespeare accepted are equally valid. The theater was approaching Shakespeare or moving away frоm it, and the measure of both proximity and distance was always a measure of truth, humanity and democracy. True Shakespeare is always the Shakespeare who carried people the truth of life, hatred of evil and social injustice, love for man and understanding of the complexity of his life.
The stage history of Shakespeare's works, which we considered only in its main points, is not over. Shakespeare continues to live in the theatre, and the struggle between modern ideology and artistic thought is still taking place around his works. Ideal and artistic principles of Soviet art have opened up new possibilities of stage interpretation of Shakespeare, enriching the perception of his drama. The creative approach to solving all problems associated with the staging of Shakespeare's plays was and remains the basis for the work of masters of the Soviet theater, addressing the creations of the great playwright. The secret of success is not only in the stage skills as such, but also in finding in Shakespeare's dramas those motifs that meet the most important demands of our time. Shakespeare is inexhaustible, and we have no doubt that the future will bring the theater new artistic achievements in the implementation of the great playwright's plays on stage.
